In the CSBB Diocese, School Advisory Groups are parent-led bodies of pastoral governance. They are guided by the wisdom of their members and the broader school community to discern how best to lead and serve.
The purpose of the School Advisory Group is to build, strengthen, and nourish the school as part of the parish. It enables members of the school and faith community to share responsibility for the wellbeing of the whole school, grounded in the beliefs, values, teachings, and traditions of the Church—lived out and witnessed within a community of disciples.
The role of the School Advisory Group is one of stewardship: developing the school in all its facets in trust for the faith community. Called through the Holy Spirit, the group serves by caring for and growing the school community. Members are invited into servant leadership, collectively accepting accountability for the school’s wellbeing.
The School Advisory Group is accountable to the Bishop through the Director of Schools. Membership is discerned by the local faith community and commissioned by the bishop. The group’s authority is rooted not in legal definition but in its understanding and practice of leadership and ministry through Shared Wisdom. All members are encouraged to develop a clear understanding of their responsibilities within Diocesan and Parish structures, functions, and aspirations.
Accepting membership in the School Advisory Group is a call to ministry—serving the educational mission of the Diocese and the school. This ministry involves key responsibilities focused on:
- Mission and Vision
- Policy Development
- Strategic Planning
- Support of the School’s Educational Leadership
- Collaboration and Communication
- Building of Relationships
- Sustainability
