Everything you need to know about the 2023 swimming carnival

St Mary’s Swimming Carnival will be held in the 25m Outdoor Andrew Boy Charlton Manly Swim Centre on Tuesday 14th February for Children in Years 2 – 6. This year our Swimming Carnival will commence promptly at 9:30am and finish at 2.00pm.

By now, you will have received the Google Form with details about the upcoming school swimming carnival via Compass. Please submit this information by Wednesday 8th Feb. Carefully check all the details especially the travelling to the carnival and how your child will be getting home from the carnival if they are not on the school bus.

The Kindy and Year 1 children will have a morning of Beach Games and activities towards the end of Term 1, so they will remain at school.

Here’s everything else you need to know about the day.

WHY IS THE CARNIVAL HELD SO EARLY IN THE SCHOOL TERM?
The carnival date is based around the next rounds of competition across the Diocese and pool availability.

UNIFORM:
Students must wear their sports uniform including shoes and socks. They can wear swimmers under their uniform. Children may choose to wear a coloured t-shirt to match their colour house (not compulsory).

WHAT TO BRING:
Swimmers and towel. Goggles are optional (but helpful).
Coloured swimming caps are optional.
Hat and sunscreen
A healthy lunch, snacks and drinks.

HOW DO THEY GET THERE AND BACK?
Buses will be provided for those children who are coming to the carnival from school and will depart as soon as the morning bell rings. At the end of the carnival parents or carers may take their children straight home after marking their name off with their class teacher at the Exit Gates. All other children will travel back to school by bus with the teachers.

CAN I COLLECT MY CHILD MYSELF?
You may choose to take your child home from the swim centre at the completion of the carnival. Please make sure you mark their name off with their class teacher at the Exit Gates.

WHICH RACE IS MY CHILD IN?
The ‘sport age’ is the age your child turns 2023. One child per entry form please.

Please note, children are able to enter EITHER a 25m or 50m for Freestyle, Backstroke, Breastroke and Butterfly. The 25m Races are for children who are not confident to swim 50m. Water safety helpers will be in each lane for the 25m Races.

Experienced swimmers also have the opportunity to compete in the 100m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley.

NORTHERN BEACHES CARNIVAL:
To be eligible to represent St Mary’s in the Northern Beaches Catholic Schools Swimming Carnival on Thursday 9th March, you must compete in 50m Races and finish with the fastest 2 times in their age group.

CAN I COME AND WATCH?
You are welcome to come and watch your child compete.
