Teaching & Learning

English

At St Mary’s we aim to challenge the creativity, initiative and ability of each child in a community where individuals are appreciated for their uniqueness.

English is a key learning area of K-6 and we encourage and foster positive attitudes towards it.

Children’s literacy skills are developed through the experiences provided in Speaking, Listening, Reading, Viewing, Writing and Representives. We provide a varied curriculum that excites and engages – catering to their individual needs.

Speaking, listening, reading and writing all have an important and inter-dependent role in communication.  We are able to assess students on their learning using a variety of methods.

Working together with parents, we can foster in your children a love for literature. Having a positive attitude to literature impacts on the children’s learning and leads to the successful experiences in the achievement of outcomes.
